But the reason we are comparing it to the x360 1030 is that we want to be clear that there’s no compromise between the aluminum EliteBook and the Elite Dragonfly. Of course, HP has done a lot of work to make it lighter, in just about every way.
The keyboard debuted on the EliteBook 1000 series, so it’s mostly taken from the EliteBook x360 1030. By the way, speaking of the Elite and Specter teams working more closely together, this is a feature we’d love to see on a Specter x360. we know that says a lot because we have been an advocate for Lenovo’s ThinkPad keyboards for so long, but HP’s keyboards is at least on par with Lenovo, if not better than it. The Elite Dragonfly uses HP’s Premium Collaboration Keyboard, which in our opinion is the best laptop with backlit keyboards on the market. Where metal isn’t used, ocean-bound plastics often are, which is a good idea, with the environmental impact of our tech purchases becoming a important consideration for many. The metal chassis feels like it can easily handle being carried around, and even a few knocks and bumps, but at the same time, it’s thin and light, weighing less than 1kg. This sturdiness extends to the overall build quality of the HP Elite Dragonfly G2. They feel sturdy and well built, so you shouldn’t have to worry about them breaking no matter how much you use the laptop. Highlighted in silver, these chunky hinges allow the screen to tilt back 180 degrees, turning the laptop into a tablet-like device. The Dragonfly G2’s two large hinges stand out, but in a good way. It looks stunning, with a metallic blue finish and silver highlights, which scream “premium”.

But you don’t have to be a corporation (the Elite x2’s target market) to appreciate being able to open up the back and, say, replace the display or the battery, and even the SSD and Wi-Fi card.The HP Elite Dragonfly G2 is really light. To be fair, it takes time and money to make a tablet serviceable, and the Elite x2 isn’t cheap.

The Elite x2 retains one big advantage over the Surface Pro 4: You can actually open up the Elite x2 for repairs. The HP Elite x2 is easy to service, with removable components. And you can open it up and replace things! HP When we reviewed an Elite x2 a scant year ago, it seemed too easy for the keyboard to separate from the tablet while sitting on a lap. What we don’t yet know is whether the magnetic connection between the keyboard and the tablet will be stronger this time around. It’s all wrapped in an aluminum keyboard deck that could feel sturdier than the lighter, plastic Type Cover and Signature Type Cover for the Surface Pro 4. There’s even a pen loop and an easily cleaned polyurethane back cover.

As for typing, the keys are backlit and have a good 1.5mm of travel, plus there’s a large clickpad. The Collaboration Keyboard has buttons dedicated to calendar, call answer/end, and presentation functions. HP’s Elite x2 has a new Collaboration Keyboard with videoconferencing buttons and a sturdy aluminum deck. We have little information about the Advanced Keyboard, however, other than that it has NFC and a Smart Card reader. There are actually two keyboards, and the one you get will depend on the model you buy. With the Elite x2 you also get what looks like a nicer keyboard (all models include a pen, too).
